Tanya Mitchell, the Chief Financial Officer for DFER, is a seasoned financial manager with both non-profit and corporate experience. Prior to joining DFER she served as Chief Financial Officer of the Newark Alliance, a non-profit organization engaged in supporting community and economic development. Tanya gained her initial experience with Arthur Andersen & Co. and then held various positions with increasing financial management responsibilities at Citibank, American Express and Prudential Financial.

Tanya is an innovative and results-oriented Chief Financial Officer with extensive experience across corporate accounting and financial controls. She has demonstrated ability to implement initiatives ranging from top-level strategy development to process improvement directives. Tanya leverages considerable experience in Non-Profit and Financial services to properly align all financial objectives with company needs. She is a leader and pacesetter, consistently offering inventive financial solutions and has a proven aptitude to critically evaluate and respond to rapidly evolving financial environments. Tanya maintains in-depth knowledge of all company assets and metrics to swiftly identify areas of business improvement. Her specific areas of expertise include Strategic Planning, Project & Program Management, Budgeting, Financial Analysis, Reporting, Management Reporting, Business Analysis, Asset Management, Internal Controls, Auditing and Team Leadership.

Tanya is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University where she studied accounting and was encouraged to become a Certified Public Accountant. Tanya has served on various nonprofit boards and is currently on the board of Leadership Newark. She was a founding trustee of Newark Legacy Charter School.
